Schmidt, Gorecki to Triple-A SWB
Josh Schmidt was transferred to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the second time in less than a week today, and this time Trenton outfielder Reid Gorecki will be joining him.
Schmidt, 27, was sent back to Double-A after allowing three runs on five hits with two strike outs over a season-high three innings as part of a 10-2 loss to Columbus Monday night.
An Eastern League All-Star last season, Schmidt was 1-0 with a 0.98 ERA in 13 games for the Thunder.
Gorecki, 30, hit an underwhelming .257 with 2 HRs, 15 RBIs and 8 stolen bases in 29 games.
(Wonder if Gorecki will be lifting his media blackout for beat writer Donnie Collins in Scranton)
Reliever Noel Castillo and infielder Justin Snyder were returned to the Double-A roster as the corresponding move.
Snyder, 24, went 2-for-6 in two games for SWB.
The 26-year-old Castillo (1-2, 7.30 ERA) did not pitch, which was probably a smart move for the Scranton Yanks.
The Thunder (17-15) open a four-game set against Binghamton tonight at Waterfront Park with Eastern League ERA leader David Phelps (3-0, 1.21) going for Trenton, which has won six straight games.
