Romine, Franklin ejected in Thunder loss

TRENTON — Top Double-A prospect Austin Romine and Thunder manager Tony Franklin each were ejected in a 5-2 loss to Portland last night at Waterfront Park.
Romine was run in the third inning after being called out at the plate by umpire Jon Saphire. Franklin was sent to the clubhouse by Saphire in the sixth.
Romine, the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect, according to Baseball America, suggested to Thunder Thoughts blogger extraordinaire Mike Ashmore that Saphire was not in the right position to make the call that led to his ejection.
You can find all of Mike’s post-game coverage here, including another not-so-sharp outing by Trenton starter Ryan Pope (5.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 5 BB).
The two teams will try and dodge all the rain to squeeze in today’s series finale.

GAME UPDATE:
Portland 5, Thunder 2 (F)
Fife W, 1-1
Pope L, 0-2
HR: Portland: Spears (2)
Time: 2:57
Attendance: 4,592
